Blood Brothers devotional

“A covenant is an agreement between parties to do something or not to do something.”

When the Indians or Native Americans made a covenant/agreement between tribes they would seal it in blood. If they agreed to end a war or bring about an alliance between tribes, the Chiefs would make a small cut on their finger or hand and seal the agreement with their blood. This would also make them Blood Brothers.

Can you tell me another covenant/agreement that was sealed in blood?

The covenant between God and Man.

The Bible says that “all things are cleansed thru blood and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin.” (Heb 9:22) When Adam and Eve first sinned in the Garden of Eden, God sacrifice an animal to pay for their sins. This was to show them that sin equals death and throughout the Old Testament this was how sin was dealt with.

Then God sent his Son to shed his blood for our sins. Jesus said “This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matt 26:28) When Jesus died on the cross all our sins were forgiven.

And do you know what is really cool. All Christians are Blood Brothers. We have the same heavenly Father, which makes us brothers in the faith. And we were purchased by the blood of Christ. So that makes us Blood Brothers.

Now I want to do something symbolic. I want to pretend that this red paint represents the blood of Christ and I want us to dip our finger or thumb in it and make our mark on this totem pole piece that states we are Blood Brothers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
